The Faculty of Science is one of the most broadly based scientific academic concentrations in Australasia, with major foci in agricultural sciences, animal and veterinary sciences, environmental sciences, allied health, medical sciences, dentistry and health sciences, wine science, and nursing.

The Education Centre for Innovation and Commercialism is a unit of the University of Adelaide with a new office in the Australian Technology Park, Sydney. The ECIC mission is to deliver capability in innovation, management and the commercialism of knowledge, research and technology, to the key research institutions, industry and individuals. ECIC offers postgraduate programs in the areas of Project Management, Science and Technology Commercialism and Entrepreneurship. Frederickton Public School serves the growing township of Frederickton (pop. 1300), and the surrounding rural area on the Mid-North Coast of New South Wales. The current school enrolment of 161 is drawn from both the town and surrounding rural areas. Being a town split by the Pacific Highway students utilise the bus service to increase safety when travelling to and from school. The school opened in 1877.

 

The main building was built in 1880, and is to a distinctive design by reknown 19th Century architect, John Horberry Hunt. The buildings were listed by the Australian Heritage Commission in 1978. A new hall, eight classroms and Staff building were constructed in 2004.

 

Frederickton Public School aims to equip students with the knowledge, understanding, skills, strategies and values that will empower them to live and learn effectively in society, now and in the future. Emphasis is placed on the basic skills in numeracy and literacy, and the use of technology. Resources at the school are continually being developed to meet the growing needs of our students. Ground resources include a large playing field, extensive shade areas, a gross motor playground, outdoor learning centre, greenhouse, native garden maze and seed collection area, Aboriginal food garden and town cenotaph.

The Faculty of Human Sciences teaches courses and conducts research about people, investigating the how and why.

The Faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs and is home to a number of internationally recognised research centres.

 

Macquarie University has 16 research areas of focus known as Concentrations of Research Excellence (CORES). More than half of these are found in the Faculty of Science.

 

The Faculty has close links with industry and is building firm future partnerships, especially with companies located close by at Macquarie Park.

Molecular biotechnology provides up-to-date classes in molecular aspects and applications of biotechnology.

We emphasise the steps taking products from concept to shelf: through discovery, research and development, patents, the development of new medicines, tests, therapies and devices.

The National Marine Science Centre (NMSC) was conceived as part of Australia's Oceans Policy and constructed with a grant from the Commonwealth Government's Centenary of Federation Fund. The Centre was opened in 2002 as a joint entity of Southern Cross University and the University of New England.

 

In 2010 Southern Cross University became the sole owner of the NMSC, a move that fitted the strategic directions of both universities. Organisationally, the NMSC is now a part of the School of Environmental Science and Management [www.scu.edu.au/enviroscience] within Southern Cross University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

 

The NMSC is based at Coffs Harbour on the East Australian seaboard, adjacent to the Solitary Islands Marine Park which provides students, academic and professional researchers practical opportunities in the study of marine science and management.

 

Students gain first hand experience in their chosen field, with an emphasis on utilising the protected marine environment around the Centre. Courses at the NMSC have been designed to meet a range of student needs, focusing on the expanding career opportunities in marine science and management in Australia and overseas.

The School has undergraduate and postgraduate research programs in Chemistry, Physics, Biophysics, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Microbiology, with collaborative programs in Nursing, Health Sciences and the Rural Medical School.

Science Industry Australia was created on 24 August 2000. It is the national industry association for organisations which are a producer, provider or user of science industry goods and/or services. Science Industry Australia represents the professional science industry, and our members include scientific and life science product and equipment suppliers; scientific, analytical and diagnostic equipment manufacturers, exporters and importers; chemical and gas companies; software companies and specialised recruiters.
