Various accommodation providers (estate agents, private householders and landlords) list vacancies and properties with the Accommodation Service. Purpose: to assist students, staff and visitors in finding suitable off-campus accommodation.

Barahineban was established in 2001 and is named by an Aboriginal word meaning "bright place to live". It originates from the language of the Pambalong clan of the Awabakal tribe, the original inhabitants of the area. Barahineban provides accommodation for 192 residents with share or single occupancy. Residents can enjoy an independent style of living in large modern air-conditioned rooms with ensuite and kitchenette. Each room is equipped for self-catering purposes.

Edwards Hall is home for up to 374 students and staff, with a range of catered and self-catered accommodation styles. The living environment is conductive to academic and sporting achievement.

International House provides accommodation for an equal number of Australian and overseas students. The House provides a culturally diverse, academic living environment. Established in 1989 it has 222 places. Co-educational; no religious affiliation, all faiths welcome. Accommodates undergraduate, postgraduate and international students and is situated on campus at the University of Newcastle (Callaghan).
